Sporting Chance Education has a new office!

There has been a big change recently for the Education team at Sporting Chance which has now settled in to new offices at the Science Park at the University of York.

This move has resulted in a hugely improved work space for Ellie and Alex in the Education team and access to modern, functional facilities across the campus to welcome visitors and host training events. Not only has the education team benefitted from this move but so too have the clinical team, with our Head of Clinical Craig and in-house therapist Alison working from a bespoke therapy room in the building next

door. Feedback from Alison and Craig’s counselling clients is already showing us the immediate benefits of this move. Just as importantly, it maintains the close link between our education and clinical functions which means the workshops and seminars we deliver to athletes and support staff are designed and built collaboratively with our therapists – and it’s our therapists that understand the mental health issues that modern day athletes are facing more than anyone.

This location also allows us to explore potential new partnerships with University departments around research and educational programmes and also to work with students interested in psychology, mental health and sport and get them involved in the charity on part-time internships. In this way we will be able to expand on successful internships that took place through the end of last year and the start of 2022.

Our first few months in our new home have been wonderful and we have felt well and truly welcomed by the team at the Science Park and look forward to embracing all the opportunities that our new base can bring us.
